Tuesday, 11th November, 2014

The Housing Bill received Royal Assent on 1st of August and became the Housing (Scotland) Act 2014. The Act introduces a number of changes to the private rented sector including:

A clear standard for electrical safety checks to be carried out every five years
A mandatory requirement for carbon monoxide detectors in all rental properties
A new Housing Tribunal to avoid landlords having to go to court to regain possession of their properties
A letting agent registration scheme and clear code of practice to protect all consumers, whether landlords or tenants
Powers to modify the Repairing Standards by regulations that will be consulted upon.

We will update our readers as and when the various regulations are introduced.
