House Sales Increase

The number of homes sold in the final three months of 2013 was the highest recorded quarter in six years.

Registers of Scotland reported the highest quarterly house sales since 2007, an increase of 26% on the same quarter in 2012.

Total 2013 house sales were 84,391 around 16% up on 2012 (72,619).

At First Scottish Searching Services (FSSS) our market share for Property Enquiry Certificates, required as part of the conveyancing process, remains impressive. Our increased demand for FSSS PEC's was 14.5% higher than 2012 and with a market share of over 50% against the total number of house sales in 2013.

Mortgage lending in Scotland has also increased in 2013, the total number of loans for house purchases was 54,100, up 15% compared to 2012. The value of these loans in total was 6.5 billion, up 19% compared to 2012.

Loans advanced for remortgages was down 6% compared to 2012. The total value of these loans was 2.8 billion down around 1% compared to 2012.
